THE SELF ESTEEM ACADEMY
Would you love to be more fulfilled, but seem to be stuck in a rut?
Do you want to have more control over your life, but too often you feel you’re marching to someone else’s tune?
Would you like to get outside your comfort zone, but staying inside it is, well, so comfortable?
Have you already taken some time to focus on your inner journey, but you feel like you’ve got stuck in the mud and your wheels are spinning?
Do you wish you felt more confident about the future?
Would you like to have deeper, more loving relationships?
Do you want to enjoy your work more – and be more successful?
Do you want to feel more confident?
More at peace with yourself, and at one with the world?
Just plain happier?
If you answered yes to any or all of these questions, you’re in the right place. I can help you – or I should say, I can help you to help yourself. What I believe you need is a huge old injection of life-enhancing, soul-uplifting, smile-inducing self-esteem.
How would you rate your sense of self-esteem right now, in this moment? If 0 is no self-esteem at all, rock bottom, and 10 is sing-it-from-the-rooftops esteemful, where are you? Write it down somewhere safe.
Would you like it to be higher?
There is nothing – nothing – more important than having a healthy sense of self-esteem if you want to have a happy and fulfilled life. It’s not just a nice-to-have or a when-I-grow-up-I’ll. Without self-esteem – aka the belief that your presence in the world is valuable and desirable – you’ll feel like you have the handbrake on even while you strive for success in your work, in your goals, and in your relationships.
“Whether you think you can or whether you think you can’t, you’re right.”
– Henry Ford
You may be very a highly functioning individual despite your lack of self-esteem, but for as long as that lack exists it will continue to undermine your happiness, like a nasty little woodworm nibbling away at the foundations of your wellbeing.
I know. I’ve been there. For the first decade of my adult life I struggled with a chronic lack of self-esteem. Despite having a law degree from Oxford and a good career and a seemingly perfect marriage, my self-esteem was going down the pan, like an inner poison that would ultimately destroy everything. Yet miraculously, it was at that lowest point, when I had nothing left to lose, that I found I had the strength to build myself back up again. I went on to not just get back to where I had been before, but to far exceed my wildest expectations of what life could offer.
It IS possible. You don’t have to live with lack of self-esteem forever. You have the potential to find and keep and grow a healthy sense of self-esteem that will allow you to flourish and prosper.
So how am I going to help you build your self-esteem?
First, I’ll tell you what I’m not going to do. I’m not going to tell you how to lose weight, or find the partner of your dreams, or how to get rich quick. Because none of those things will make one jot of difference to your self-esteem.
Having low self-esteem does not have anything to do with how you look, who you’re with, or how much you earn. (Nor does high self-esteem, by the way.)
In my experience, the only way you can effectively and permanently create healthy self-esteem is to change the way you think about Who You Are.
A thought. What is it? In response to some form of input, like a remark or an image or an event, your brain generates a flicker of neural activity, as fleeting and insubstantial as a beat of a butterfly’s wing. And yet, even such a tiny and transient happening can create enormous consequences. If you think the same thought again, and again and again, it starts to get hard-wired into your brain, until subconsciously you start editing the way you see your life to prove that your thought was true.
“Sow a thought and you reap an action; sow an act and you reap a habit; sow a habit and you reap a character; sow a character and you reap a destiny.”
― Ralph Waldo Emerson
So if you once had a negative thought about yourself, that you then thought again repeatedly, over time it became a belief about what kind of person you are, and what you can and can’t do. Whether or not that first thought was true, your brain now takes it as gospel, and actively seeks out evidence to prove that it is true, while ignoring any evidence that would prove that it’s untrue, or at least not always true.
If a belief can be created, it can also be un-created. So we’re not talking enormous, terrifying, fundamental change here – just a crucial tweak to the story you’re telling yourself about yourself and what you’re capable of.
Don’t be concerned if this doesn’t make much sense yet – it will.
Without further ado, I’d like to invite you to join my Self Esteem Academy. Together, we’re going to find out more about who YOU are, and how YOU can be happy being YOU. After all, nobody else can be half as good at being you as you already are. You’re the world expert!
“Be yourself; everyone else is already taken.”
― Oscar Wilde
Week by week on this course, I’ll take you through the components that you need to build your self-esteem.
Using the image of planning and executing an ocean rowing voyage. I’ll invite you to take on a challenge of your choosing (your Waypoint) that will banish your self-limiting beliefs and expand your horizons, while at the same time sharing with you lessons that will unlock your inner strengths and reveal your oceans of opportunity.
You will find out how to:
- Calibrate your Compass – you will find out what your guiding values are, identify areas of conflict between your values and your life, and take steps to resolve those conflicts
- Set your destination (or as I prefer to call it, Destiny-ation) – you will develop a vision for a brighter future
- Build your Boat of Self-Belief – you will identify the beliefs that support you, and eliminate self-limiting beliefs
- Hone your Habits – you will make sure your daily routines are supporting and not undermining the achievement of your goals
- Find Metrics that Motivate – you will learn how to measure progress in ways that encourage, not discourage
- Keep your Mind in the Boat – you will find out how to stay focused on what matters when winds and currents threaten to drag you off course
- Scrub Barnacles off your (Boat’s) Bottom – you will be invited to shed the things that sap energy and slow you down; the excess possessions, superfluous tasks, and negative people
- Weather the Storm – batten down the hatches and learn how to use a psychological anchor to prevent emotional capsize when the going gets rough
- Connect with Calmness – you will learn techniques to help you keep your cool under pressure
- Land Ahoy! – celebrate your success, graduate from the Self Esteem Academy, and become the proud recipient of the Grand Medal of the Order of Oarsomeness!
Please be aware – this course is not for the faint-hearted. It is going to take you into some challenging places, far outside your comfort zone. Please understand that the element of challenge is essential to the transformation that you seek. To quote Tony Robbins, if you do what you’ve always done, you’ll get what you’ve always got – which is the lack of a healthy sense of self-esteem. So it’s my job to take you to new and different places so that you get new and different results. I would be wasting your time if I went easy on you. I want the best for you, for you to have the life you dream of, and that is going to require some tough love.
With those words of warning in mind, I have provided resources so that you are never left completely alone to fend for yourself.
You’ll be supported throughout your journey by the tips and techniques in each week’s lesson, and by the group calls every two weeks. You can contact me at any time via the group’s Facebook page with any comments or questions, and I’ll do my best to get back to you within 24 hours.
You will also be supported by the community of “rowers” on the Facebook page. Imagine a flotilla of solo boats crossing the ocean – we each row our own boat, but going through similar challenges together, so we can support and encourage each other as we row in parallel towards our goals.
You will be provided with a “rowing buddy”, another student on the course who will check in with you every week to make sure you aren’t falling out of the boat or sinking.
What if your Waypoint is too big and audacious to complete within the 10 weeks? Or what if you “fail” to complete it? (I prefer to say that something just hasn’t succeeded YET, rather than failed.) No problem. You’ll have lifelong access to the training materials, so you can come back and refer to them any time you like. And you’ll have the opportunity to make lifelong friends within the flotilla who will continue to support you on your voyage.
I know you have busy lives, so I’ve done my best to give you maximum bang for the buck in a relatively small amount of time each week. To do the bare minimum, the exercises will take 1-2 hours a week. Watching the video messages, taking part in group calls, and posting on the Facebook page are optional, but strongly encouraged. The more you participate, the more powerful the learning, and the greater your personal growth. And you’ll also want to allocate time to work towards your Waypoint – only you can determine how much.
Apart from time, you don’t need a lot – just a device with internet connection, notebook and pen and/or the downloadable worksheets, and lots of enthusiasm. The more commitment you put into the voyage of discovery, the more you will get out of it. I hope you will be willing to lose sight of the shore. It might be a bit scary at times, but I’ll be with you every oarstroke of the way to support you.
Are you ready to ramp up your self-esteem, and get yourself on course for a more confident you?
“This course has been, without a doubt, a catalyst which boosted my confidence and got me back on the right track, so I have no hesitation in recommending the Self Esteem Academy.”
– Tomas, Czech Republic
“SEA taught me how to ask myself right questions and come to realisation about the truly important goals in my life. Before that, the only technique I used was beating myself up when I hadn’t met my own often unhealthy aims or other people’s expectations. SEA offered tools to get rid of unimportant and harmful habits and taught me to focus on forces within myself that I can control. My mind is clearer and I’m aware of ways to shape my life according to my truth, which means less stress. The lessons I have learnt at SEA saved me from my final exams panic and boosted my self-confidence.”
