Design of a narrow bedroom (83 photos): a 2x4 bedroom interior, design and arrangement in Khrushchev

Choosing a design for a narrow bedroom

The arrangement of any room raises many questions. During the development of a design for a narrow bedroom, even more of them arise: where and how to put the bed and bedside tables, how to arrange furniture so that the room does not seem narrower, or how to visually expand it. These and other aspects of the interior design of such a bedroom will be discussed in this article.

Design features of a narrow bedroom

The creation of a bedroom design, like any other room, begins with the development of a general layout. If the room is narrow, this process will depend not only on the desires and needs of the tenants, but also on the features of the geometric shape of the room. Arranging a narrow bedroom can cause some difficulties if you need to put a double bed. A room of this shape can be found mainly in the "Khrushchev".

The rooms were designed for a one-and-a-half bed or a sofa bed, so nowadays there are difficulties with placing a large bed.

Of course, it all depends on the width of the room. If the room is about 3 m wide, then the position of the bed should not cause any special problems. Regardless of its position, along the room or across, there will be enough space for the passage. The standard is considered 70 cm.Thus, even if the bed has a length of 2.3 m, the required minimum will be provided

Note that long beds, as a rule, have an additional section with shelves at the head. This increases the overall length. Such a model will be relevant in a bedroom with a width of 2.5 m, because if you put it across the room, there will be practically no room for passage. And if placed along, then with a mattress width of 1.8 m, the necessary 70 cm for the passage will just remain on the side. However, in this case, it will be pushed against the wall. But it depends on the owners and, perhaps, someone will arrange narrower passages on both sides.

The greatest difficulty is presented by very narrow rooms with an area of 2 by 4 m. The standard mattress length is 2 m, so the bed itself will be several centimeters longer. Accordingly, if the room is clearly 2 m wide, such a bed will not fit across the room. Thus, you either have to make it to order, or put it along the room. In this case, 20-30 cm will not be used on the side. For such a small room, this is a pretty decent area that should not be lost. This distance is great for building shelves. This creates a very ergonomic storage area.

Moreover, the remaining 2 sq. m. it is necessary to place a few more necessary pieces of furniture.

A rectangular room can be either with one window or with two. In a room with a window at the end, it is easier to arrange furniture. In a room with two windows, you have to build on the location of the windows, and if the area is small, this can cause difficulties.

In a room with a loggia, due to the latter, you can increase the space. Even if it is not possible to obtain permission to demolish the wall, you can insulate it and organize a storage area or dressing room in it, put a toilet or work table.

    Decoration and decor

It is better to choose the simplest materials for repair: paint for walls and ceilings, wood or floor tiles for the floor. Embossed or variegated materials (decorative plaster, linoleum or patterned wallpaper) visually steal a lot of space, so it's better not to use them to decorate a small or narrow room.

To add variety to the interior, you can paint one of the walls in a contrasting color. Typically, this is the wall behind the headboard. You can also paste over it with wallpaper with an interesting pattern. This technique diversifies the interior, does not impair the visual perception of the space and helps to avoid the feeling of isolation. And it can appear in a small room with plain walls and a limited set of pieces of furniture and decor.

With regard to interior decoration, then, as in any other case, it is necessary to observe a sense of proportion and adhere to some rules. So, it should be borne in mind that vertical lines visually raise the ceiling. Thus, the room seems even narrower. Therefore, be very careful when using lamps with long cables or wallpaper with vertical stripes.

Generally speaking, in a room with such a layout, the main part of the furniture and decor is best placed at the bottom and top. We will talk about furnishing furniture a little later. As for the decor, for this purpose it is better not to hang the shelves at eye level, unless this is urgently needed.

You should also pick up beautiful household items or furniture that will already be in the room. Textiles are the best at this task. Curtains, bedspreads and pillows, correctly selected in style and color, will be enough for a small room.

If the area of the room is more than 12 sq. m. a few more items should be added. These can be decorative boxes, in which there is always something to put.

If the design is based on white or natural colors (brown, blue, yellow), indoor plants in pots will be an excellent solution. They harmoniously complement the listed colors and stand out against their background. In addition, they never visually litter the room.

    Interior

When decorating a room's interior, it is necessary to take into account the geometric shape of the room, what kind of furniture should stand and how much natural light enters the room.

Thus, when deciding how to arrange a window, one should start from which side of the world it faces. Accordingly, for the north side, it is better to choose light, maximally transparent curtains. There may not be shadows at all.

Many modern interiors are designed without curtains at all, using roller blinds or blinds. It is also worth noting that some styles (loft or Scandinavian) initially assume unformed windows.

In case of using curtains, their color and texture should be taken into account. The printed pattern and decor of fringes, draperies and strings draws a lot of attention. In a small room, this can negatively affect aesthetics. If you decide to use an attention-grabbing fabric, you need to associate it with the rest of the decor using color.

You can also use decorative pillows from the same material.

If in interior design the emphasis is on decor, then you should choose unassuming furniture of a simple form, with straight lines and monochromatic upholstery. Its color should not contrast with the walls. On the contrary, they should create a common background against which the decor items will stand out.

If the basis of the design is the contrast of the color of furniture and walls, then the decor should play a secondary role and only complement the main idea of the design. Note that if there are two main colors, then the decor elements should have a third. Thus, if the walls are light beige and the furniture is dark brown, pictures, pillows and vases should be blue, green, red, etc.

It is worth noting that there should not be too many of them.

    Selection and placement of furniture

Earlier, we have already touched on the question of how to place furniture, if possible, so that it does not occupy space at eye level. The room will appear more spacious. To do this, you can place shelves or mezzanines under the ceiling around the entire perimeter of the room.

It is better to replace a high rack with a chest of drawers or several shelves. And instead of a cabinet, put a floor hanger. For aesthetics and dust protection, clothes can be packed in matching covers.

If you still need to put a cabinet, it is better to choose a model without volumetric carved elements and the same color with the walls. In this case, it will not stand out much from the general background.

It is best to place this piece of furniture so that it is not conspicuous when entering.

In a long bedroom, furniture is placed alternately. It would be rational to put a dressing table and a work table near the window, since a sufficient amount of light is required for classes behind them. You can put a bed in the center of the room. And on the opposite wall is a wardrobe.

Note that with such a layout, it is not recommended to make the cabinet doors mirrored. They will stretch the room even further.

If the location of the door allows, then the bed can be placed against the wall opposite to the window, and the wardrobe - in the middle. In this case, mirrors, on the contrary, will create a visual extension of the room.

In a very small bedroom, how to furnish a room can get quite tricky. For example, in a bedroom with an area of 2x4 m, it will be quite problematic to put a wardrobe. In this case, a bed with a podium is perfect for additional storage area.

As a rule, they have rather spacious boxes under the berth.

The window sill will perfectly cope with the function of bedside tables. It is near him, most likely, that the bed will stand. Thus, additional storage space can be rationally organized.

And to store clothes on hangers, you can attach a wall module with a hanger.

    Tips for arrangement

To create a harmonious interior in a narrow bedroom, you must adhere to the following tips:

    • As for furnishing furniture, to save space, instead of bedside tables, you can hang a shelf between the head of the bed and the wall.
    • To arrange the storage area, it is worth using the entire space from floor to ceiling. You can choose the most inconspicuous corner in the room and attach modular structures with shelves, hangers and baskets to the walls. You can close this system with a plain curtain that matches the color of the walls. It will look quite natural without cluttering up the space like a closet.
    • To expand the room visually, you need to get rid of many small objects (pictures, vases or personal items) as much as possible. It was mentioned earlier that decorative boxes can be used. They are perfect for storing various little things, and several of the same boxes visually take up less space than many small items.
    • In addition, you should outline the boundaries of space. Solid walls merge and visually can make the room even smaller. Thus, when decorating a bedroom with decor, you need to think about what eye-catching objects can be placed in the corners: pillows on the bed, vase on the table or on the floor, etc.
    • Note that you should not make the floor the same color as the walls. This will also make the room enclosed. If, nevertheless, it is decided to use one shade, then you can highlight the floor with the help of contrasting skirting boards. This will help improve perception.

    Interesting design ideas

Let's start with an interesting design using black decorative elements: curtains, paintings and pillows. Note that all the colors used (white, black and beige) are neutral and despite the contrasts, the interior looks harmonious and not overloaded. Also pay attention to the beige wall behind the headboard. This technique outlines the boundaries of the room and decorates the interior without unnecessary elements.

In the next interior, it is worth highlighting the effective use of space above the bedside tables . Modular shelves save space. We also note that the dark color of the picture, side tables and pillows creates a single composition with numerous books. And light walls, floor and textiles act as a neutral background for her.

An example of the competent use of mirrors to expand a room is the following design. Mirrors in the cabinet doors reflect light and create the illusion of an extension of space. A large picture above the headboard is also a good solution.

How you can decorate a small room in dark colors can be seen in this example. Graphite walls and a brown cabinet fit into the interior thanks to the combination with a light wall and floor, a large white window without curtains and a white bed.

When there is not enough space for large bedside tables, a bench at the foot of the bed can be the way out, as in the following example. Note that the rich color scheme of brown, black and several shades of gray creates a rather interesting interior that does not require additional decor.

Finally, let's take a look at designs based on white. Horizontal lines of wall decoration gently outline the boundaries of the space. The abundance of white and gray textiles lend airiness to the rooms, while the warm shade of wood creates coziness.
